Aurore Cormier (Goguen), 95, passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 23rd, 2011, at Résidence Bellevue, Dieppe, NB.
Born on May 28th, 1916 in Cocagne, NB, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and the late Lea Goguen and the wife of the late Adélyre H. Cormier.
She taught school in Kent County, worked in Montreal during the war and finally moved to Dieppe with her husband to open the Dieppe Variety store which they operated until 1970. She ran the post office and sat on the Dieppe School Board for many years.
Her many interest included oil painting, hunting, fishing and ballroom dancing. An avid walker and quite able at crossword puzzles, with a little help, she continued these activities, in spite of being totally blind during the last few years.
She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Edmée Goguen of Dieppe and Maria LeBlanc of Moncton and also by one brother-in-law, Jonny Cormier of Mass.
While she never had children of her own, she was surrounded by a large family of nieces and nephews who lovingly knew her as "Ma-tante Aurore". These included the late Rolande Landry (Leo-Paul) of Boucherville, QC, Bernard Goguen (Marguerite) of Dieppe, Gilberte LeBlanc (Aris) of Cocagne, Gilles Goguen (Fern) of Grande-Digue, Roland Goguen (Phyllis) of Dieppe and Bertrand Goguen (Irene) of Moncton. She then became "Grand-Mère" Cormier to their children and finally "Mémère Cormier" to their grandchildren.
She was greatly loved, will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all.
She was the last surviving member of her family having been predeceased by four brothers and sisters: Laurie Goguen, Andrea (Fidele) Caissie, Leona Gélinas and Omer Goguen.
