It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bernice Ella Johnston, on September 23rd, 2015 at the Dr. Georges L. Dumont University Hospital Center, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Dieppe, NB, she was the daughter of the late Emile and the late Yvonne (Allain) Bourque of Dieppe.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen (Terry) Wilson and granddaughter, Kailee Wilson, all of Ottawa; sisters: Annette (Valmont) Gauvin and Dianne (John) Johnson, both of Dieppe; brothers: Normand (Betty Allison) of Miramichi, Leonard (Gloria) and Bernard, both of Dieppe; Emery Melanson, her companion of 20 years, and his children: Carole and Charles, as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her special sister, Paulette.
She was known for her many artistic skills, an excellent seamstress, enjoyed painting, loved to crochet and knit, especially baby blankets. She had a great passion for horses, greatly enjoyed family gatherings and hosted many throughout the years. She was a very kind and generous person always willing to give a helping hand.
As per her request, there will be no viewing.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held from Sainte-Thérèse Roman Catholic Church in Dieppe on Monday, September 28th, 2015, at 3 pm, followed by a reception.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Kidney Foundation or Cancer Society would be appreciated.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the Doctors, Nurses and staff of Oncology, Dialysis and Palliative Care Units for their excellent care and compassion.

Née à Dieppe, N.-B., elle était fille de feu Emile et de feu Yvonne (née Allain) Bourque.
Elle laisse dans le deuil sa fille, Karen (Terry) Wilson et sa petite-fille, Kailee Wilson, toutes d’Ottawa; ses soeurs: Annette (Valmont) Gauvin et Dianne (John) Johnson, toutes deux de Dieppe; ses frères: Normand (Betty Allison) de Miramichi, Leonard (Gloria) et Bernard, tous deux de Dieppe; Emery Melanson, son compagnon de plus de 20 et ses enfants: Carole et Charles, ainsi que plusieurs neveux et nièces.
Outre ses parents, une soeur, Paulette, l’a précédée dans la tombe.
À sa demande, aucune visite n’aura lieu.
La messe des funérailles aura lieu en l’église Sainte-Thérèse, à Dieppe, N.-B., le lundi 28 septembre 2015, à 15h, suivie d’une réception.
Au lieu des fleurs, un don à la Fondation du rein ou la Société du cancer serait apprécié par la famille.
La famille désire remercier les docteurs, les infirmier(e)s et le personnel des unités d’oncologie, de dialyse et des soins palliatifs pour les bons soins.
