Born in Dieppe, NB, he was the son of the late Louis and the late Louise Bernard (nee Arsenault).

Charles leaves behind his soul mate and wife, Cheryl Bernard of 28 years of Bouctouche Bay, NB; his son, Randy Bernard (Lori Grant) their children Alie & Carleigh of Superior, Colorado; his daughter, Mona Barrett (Bob) and their son Bobby of Puslinch, ON and a son Jason Bernard (Karen) of Saskatoon, SK. and their children Rayna and Morgan Bernard of Moncton, NB; a brother to: Anne Gale of Port Dover, ON., Lillian Vanaria of Mass., U.S.A., Henri Bernard (Jeannine) of Dieppe, NB, Loretta Cushinan-Bulley of Brampton, ON., Gerene Breen (Peter) of Port Hope, ON, Diana Cox (Bruce) of Bewdley, ON, Sharlene Bernard of Cobourg, ON, Alfred Bernard of Port Hope, ON and Adrienne Bernard of Cobourg, ON; a sister-in-law, Margaret Whalen (Ralph Bell) of Halifax, NS; a brother-in-law, Anthony Palumbo of Georgetown, ON; he is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two sisters, Lea Palumbo and Pauline Bernard

Before turning to woodcarving as his full time passion Chuck owned and operated Palumbos Variety & Palm Lunch on Champlain St. in Dieppe. This year he was celebrating his 25th year as The Woodchuck, the last 15 of which were spent in Beautiful Bouctouche Bay where his huge Spanish Galleon which he built himself from scratch was a huge tourist attraction.

Visiting the Woodchuck was an enlightening experience. He could always be found engaging friends or strangers alike in philosophical and rewarding conversations.

He taught woodcarving to students at schools in N.B. and at the Cultural Center in Bouctouche where he could always be heard telling students who were afraid of ruining their carving “not to worry you can’t make a mistake that I can’t fix”.

Before moving to Bouctouche Bay he and his wife Cheryl were very involved in Curtain Call Theatre and if he wasn’t acting on stage he was entertaining back stage.

Meeting Chuck was always a larger than life experience and he will be missed and always remembered by his loving family and the large network of friends, tourists and those in the woodcarving and antiques community.

Visitations will be at Sainte-Anne-de-Kent RC Church slumber room, 7611 Route 134, Sainte-Anne-de-Kent, NB, on Thursday, August 17th, 2017 from 5:00pm till 8:00pm. There will be no visitation on Friday morning, August 18th, 2017. Funeral Mass will be held at Sainte-Anne-de-Kent RC Church, 7611 Route 134, Sainte-Anne-de-Kent, NB, on Friday August 18th, 2017 at 11:00 am.
