Moncton, NB – Carson, D. Brett, It is with deep sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of Donald Brett Carson, at the age of 43years old, as the result of a tragic automobile accident on December 23rd, 2014 while on his return to Moncton. Born in Moncton, Brett was the youngest son of Jennie Roberts and the late Willis Edward Carson. If there is one word that describes Brett’s short life, it is that he was a “Giver”. Over the past twenty five years of his life, Brett gave not hundreds, but thousands of hours to the Community in which he lived as a volunteer. First came the countless, heartbreaking hours he gave to those suffering from the HIV/AIDS virus. Through his many, many visits to the hospitals and to their homes, Brett performed whatever little task he could to help those afflicted. Whether it was helping them to wash, or to shave them, change the bed, make a cup of tea, fetch a glass of water or run to the local grocery store to pick up groceries or the pharmacy to pick up medication, nothing was too small for him and he always did it with a cheerful smile. Those were trying times as Brett found it more and more difficult to rebound from the onslaught of his depression after each funeral he attended and decided he would refocus his efforts on helping those living in less fortunate circumstances in the Community. From 1987 until 2004, Brett volunteered his time as often as he could to working in the Ray of Hope Needy Kitchen in the basement of St. Augustine’s Church where it was not uncommon to see him helping the late Lawrence Ayles operating the dishwasher, scrubbing the pots or cleaning up the Hall after the fundraising banquets. In 2002, when the Mobile One Soup Kitchen Bus took to the streets of our City, Brett volunteered his services as one of the on-board trainers of the volunteers and, himself, served many meals to those living in homeless and near homeless conditions. When the Mobile One Food Pantry Program was introduced to Moncton and the surrounding communities of Westmorland and Kent Counties, Brett offered his services on the delivery van helping to distribute much needed food boxes to those in need. He served with the Mobile One Project from its inception in 2001 until it closed in 2012. Once Brett realized he had to make changes to his lifestyle in order to take control of his addiction to alcohol and, with the help of many friends, he willingly embraced the AA Program. It was while returning from a mission of help and assistance to someone in need – a 12 step call, that the tragic auto accident occurred.

Brett was predeceased by his father, Willis E. Carson (1971) and by his beloved step-father, Gerard LeBreton (2013). He leaves behind his surviving family led by his mother, Jennie LeBreton (Moncton), brother Robert (Bob) Leblanc (Stephanie) of Rexton, NB and his children Becky & Bruce; sister Beverley Beck (Reid) of Moncton and their children Stacey and Heather for whom he had a special place in his heart; his brother Kevin Shannon (Rhonda) and their daughter Erica of Jemseg, NB; sister Stacey Butler (Tim) of Moncton and their children Bradley & Alex; brother Walter (Wally) Shannon (Linda) of Sackville, NB and his children, Sarah and Sydney; brother Richard (Rick) Shannon and his daughter Emily of Moncton; brother Willis Carson (Loriann) and their son, Colby of Riverview; his brother Darrell Carson of Moncton for whom, without a doubt, Brett had a very special bond; his special friend, Shaun Powers who, from the day they met, was always there for him; his adopted uncle, Sean L. Tobin of Moncton, under whose guardianship he voluntarily remained these past thirty years; his extended family and his many friends.

Visitation will be held at Passage Funeral Chapel, 625 Mountain Road, Moncton on Monday, December 29th, 2014, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7-9 pm. The celebration of Brett’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, December 30th, 2014 at Passage Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Father Laurence Quin-Morris presiding. Interment will take place at Fair Haven Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice Shoppe Boutique located at 1075 Mountain Road, Moncton, or the charity of the donor’s choice.
