Dr. Eric Richards, 45, of Dieppe, NB, passed away on Wednesday, January 9th, 2013 at The Moncton Hospital.

Born in Saint-John, NB, he was the son of Donald and Myrna (née: Tays) Richards. He is survived by his wife, Dr. Geneviève « Gen » Desmarais of Dieppe; his son Xavier, who gave him great joy; his sister Elizabeth (Michael Keleher) Richards and nephews Max and Owen, of Ottawa, ON; his mother-in-law, Louise Arbour and brother in law, Dominic Desmarais of Montréal, QC, as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Dr. Richards was an adjunct professor and researcher at Mount Alison University, (Department of Psychology). He was a graduate of the University of New Brunswick, University of Manitoba, University of Waterloo and was a post-doctoral fellow at McMaster University. Eric published in various academic journals and was a recipient of an NSERC Discovery Grant. He taught and researched at various universities including University of Waterloo, McMaster and UPEI. During the last two years, he was happy to return to New Brunswick and start a family. Eric was a loving husband and father and devoted son and brother. He was greatly loved by his family and a wide circle of friends and his loss will be felt by many.

Visitation will be held from the Chartersville Funeral Home, 363 Amirault Street, Dieppe , NB (857-1901) on Saturday from 2-6 pm.

Funeral service will be held from the St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Hampton, NB , on Sunday, January 13th, 2013 at 2 pm.

A donation to the New Brunswick Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.

À L’Hôpital de Moncton, le mercredi 9 janvier 2013, à l’âge de 45 ans, est décédé le Dr Eric Richards, demeurant à Dieppe, N.-B.
Né à Saint-Jean, N.-B., il était le fils de Donald et de Myrna (née Tays) Richards.
Outre ses parents, il laisse dans le deuil son épouse, Dr. Geneviève « Gen » Desmarais de Dieppe; son fils Xavier; sa soeur Elizabeth (Michael Keleher) Richards et ses neveux Max et Owen, d’Ottawa, ON; sa belle-mère, Louise Arbour et son beau-frère, Dominic Desmarais de Montreal, QC, ainsi que plusieurs oncles, tantes, cousins et cousines.

Les visites auront lieu à la Maison funéraire Chartersville, 363 rue Amirault, Dieppe, N.-B., (857-1901) le samedi de 14h à 18h.
Les funérailles auront lieu en l’église St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Hampton, N.-B., le dimanche 13 janvier 2013 à 14h.
Un don à la Fondation des maladies du cœur du Nouveau-Brunswick serait apprécié par la famille.
