Born in Shediac, NB, he was the son of the late Aurel and Evelyn (LeBlanc) O’Brien.
Francis will be sadly missed by his wife of 53 years, Laure (Belliveau) O’Brien; his two daughters, Lise Cormier (Marcel) of Shediac and Lynn Leger (Marcel) of Cap-Pelé; his son, Serge O’Brien of Shediac; his sister, Anita Metcalfe (late Roland) of Shediac; his nine grandchildren, Marc, Alain, Natalie, Patrick, Pierre, Danielle, Conrad, Julia and Matthew; his great grandson, Mattéo; also by several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was employed by CNR as a Carman Welder until his retirement. He enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing in his shanty, golfing, RV camping and boating on Shediac Bay. Francis also enjoyed spending time with his nine grandchildren; his sense of humour would always make them smile. Francis served as a Shediac Town councillor for two terms and was a founding member of the Shediac Knights of Columbus serving as a Grand Knight for two terms.
Visitations will be at Passage in Shediac Bridge, on Sunday, September 10, 2017 from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm and on Monday, September 11, 2017 from 9 to 10 am. Funeral service will be held at St-Joseph RC Church in Shediac, on Monday, September 11, 2017 at 11 am. Reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Heart and Stroke Foundation, CHU Dumont Foundation (Palliative Care) or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
