Gerald Joseph Gaudet, 92, of Moncton, New Brunswick, died peacefully, surrounded by his loving wife of 62 years Imelda and family on November 26th, 2018, at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Center, Moncton.
Gerry was born in Moncton on September 28th, 1926, the son of the late Anna and the late Edmond Gaudet and is predeceased by 11 older brothers and sisters.
He graduated from the College de Bathurst in 1947, the University of New Brunswick in 1950 as an engineer and McGill University in 1953 as an architect. He married Marguerite Imelda Foley on May 26th, 1954, in Moncton.
Gerry practiced as an architect and engineer for over thirty years and contributed enormously to building the culture of the city and the province. He was a founding member of the firm Gaudet and Roy, principal of Gerald J. Gaudet Architect Ltd. and founding partner of Architects Four Ltd. He advocated dutifully for both his professions as president of the Architects Association of New Brunswick as well as the Association of Professional Engineers of New Brunswick, becoming a Lifetime member for both Associations. He received the fellowship for distinctive service to the profession from the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada in 1988. As an entrepreneur and volunteer, Gerry was an engaged and effective leader. His contributions to the city and the province included the presidency of the Rotary Club, the YMCA Executive Committee, The United Way, the Central Business Development Corporation and Planning Commission, the Atlantic Chamber of Commerce and a chair of the Board of Governors for Blue Cross of Atlantic Canada. On the National stage, Gerry ensured a Maritime perspective was always present and valued, serving on The National Capital Commission, the Standards Council of Canada and the Canadian Chamber of Commerce.
His practice produced a legacy of public and spiritual buildings for the Province. Locally, these include The Blue Cross Centre, the Moncton Hospital, Église Christ-Roi and the Nursing School for l’Université de Moncton.
He was a loving, devoted and proud father and grandfather, raising eight surviving children with Imelda to whom he is survived; Paul Edward (Moya) of St. John’s NL, Charles Ronald (Debbie) of Moncton, Marc André (Jamie) of Halifax, NS, Gerald Julien (Jill) of Moncton, Clare Marie (Mitchell) of Toronto, ON, Marcia Jeanne (Patrice) of Kingston, JAM, Maura Elizabeth (Gerard) of Moncton, Anne Louise (Darren) of Saint John, NB, along with twelve grandchildren.
He was a gifted athlete in his youth and a skilled golfer in his later years, becoming a member of the Maritime Seniors’ Golf Association. He loved his Montréal Canadiens and Expos, great food, his Acadian culture, debate and music. He was a compassionate man of great integrity who sought to always do the right thing in the right way.
Visitation will be held from the Chartersville Funeral Home, 363 Amirault Street, Dieppe, (857-1901) on Thursday from 2 to 4 pm and from 7 to 9 pm ONLY.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Christ-Roi Roman Catholic Church, Moncton on Friday, November 30th, 2018 at 11 am.
Interment in Notre-Dame du Calvaire Cemetery, Dieppe.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Friends of the Moncton Hospital or to the CHU-Dumont Foundations.
A special thank-you to the nurses and doctors of the Palliative Care Unit of the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont Hospital.

Gérald Joseph Gaudet, 92, de Moncton, Nouveau Brunswick, est décédé paisiblement le 26 novembre 2018, entouré de ses proches, au Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Dr-Georges-L.-Dumont de Moncton au Nouveau-Brunswick.
Né à Moncton le 28 septembre 1926, le fils de feu Anna et de feu Edmond Gaudet, il est prédécédé par 11 frères et soeurs ainés.
Gerald a complété son cours classique au Collège de Bathurst en 1947, l’Université du Nouveau Brunswick en 1950 comme ingénieur et a Université McGill en 1953 comme architecte. Il a épousé Marguerite Imelda Foley le 26 mai 1954, à Moncton.
Gérald a pratiqué comme architecte et ingénieur pendant plus de trente ans a Moncton et a contribué grandement à l’épanouissement de la ville et de la province. Il était un membre fondateur de la compagnie Gaudet et Roy, de Gerald J. Gaudet Architect Ltd et un associe fondateur d’Architectes Quatre Ltd. Il fut président de l’Association d’architectes du Nouveau Brunswick ainsi que l’Association des ingénieurs professionnels du Nouveau Brunswick, et nomme membre a vie pour les deux Associations. Il a reçu un Fellow pour ses services à la profession de l’Institut royal d’architecture du Canada en 1988. En tant qu’entrepreneur et bénévole, Gerald était un leader engagé. Ses contributions à la ville et a la province comprennent la présidence du Rotary Club, du Comité exécutif YMCA, de la Centraide, de la Société de Développement commercial Centrale et de La Commission d’urbanisme, la Chambre de Commerce Atlantique et du Conseil de la Croix Bleue de l’Atlantique. Sur le plan national, Gerald a assuré la representation des Maritimes au sein d’organismes canadiens tels que la Commission de la capitale nationale, le Conseil de Normes (Standards) de Canada et la Chambre de commerce canadienne.
Sa pratique a réalisé un héritage architectural qui inclut le Centre Mutuel Bleu, l’Hôpital de Moncton, Église Christ-Roi et l’École d’infirmier pour l’Université de Moncton.
Gerald un époux, père et grand-père dévoué.
Avec Imelda il a élevé huit enfants: Paul Edward (Moya) de Saint-Jean de Terre-Neuve, Charles Ronald (Debbie) de Moncton, Marc Andre (Jamie) de Halifax, N.-É., Gerald Julien (Jill) de Moncton, Clare Marie (Mitch) de Toronto, Marcia Jeanne (Patrice) de Kingston, Maura Elizabeth (Gerard) de Moncton, Anne Louise (Darren) de Saint-Jean, N.-B., avec plusieurs petits-enfants.
Il fut un athlète doué dans sa jeunesse (baseball et hockey) et un amateur de golf plus tard, devenant un membre de l’Association de Golf Seniors des Maritimes. Partisan depuis toujours des Canadiens et la défunte équipe des Expo de Montréal, la gastronomie, sa patrimoine Acadienne, les débats et la musique. Gerald était un homme compatissant de grande intégrité.
Les visites auront lieu à la Maison funéraire Chartersville, 363 rue Amirault, Dieppe, (857-1901), le jeudi de 14h à 16h et de 19h à 21h SEULEMENT.
La messe des funérailles aura lieu en l’Église Christ-Roi, Moncton, le vendredi 30 novembre 2018, à 11h.
L’inhumation se fera au cimetière Notre-Dame du Calvaire à Dieppe.
Au lieu des fleurs, les donations peuvent être faites aux Fondations des Amis de l’Hôpital de Moncton ou CHU-DUMONT.
