GERARD (GERRY) JULIEN of Dieppe, NB, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2020. He would have celebrated his 90th birthday on April 15.
Gerry will be very sadly missed by his surviving wife, Noëlla (LeBlanc) Julien; his daughters, Gisèle Julien of Dieppe and Louise (Maurice) Richard of Moncton; his step-children, Janice (Jean) Richard of Dieppe and Debbie Porelle of Moncton; his grand-children, Sonja, Monik and Marc; his great granddaughters, Zoé, Lillianne and Gabrielle; his step grandchildren, Pierre and Nicole and numerous nieces/nephews.
Born in Montreal, he was predeceased by his parents Louis-Georges Julien and Maria Deschênes; also by numerous brothers and sisters in Quebec (being the youngest and the last surviving member of his family); his former wife, Thérèse Cormier in 1986 (mother of his 3 children) and his son, Pierre in 2018.
Gerry was an avid golfer, former member of Mountain Ridge and Lakeside Golf Clubs. As well, he had belonged to the Beauséjour Curling Club, enjoyed fishing, he was a member of the Canadian Legion of Cap Pelé and the “Club d’âge d’or de Dieppe”.
He served in the RCAF for several years as a firefighter before retiring in Moncton. In 1957 he joined CN Rail, Purchasing and Materials, and became Maritime Inspector. He retired from CN in 1987 in Montreal at CN headquarters while on a special project.
He then enjoyed a long retirement, spending several winters in Florida with his wife Noëlla, travelling intensively throughout Canada and the USA, on cruises, seasonal camping at Sandy Beach, dancing, playing pool, horseshoes, cards, computer games, doing crossword puzzles and exploring the internet.
As per Gerry’s wishes, there will be no visitation and no funeral service. A graveside service will be held at Our Lady of Calvary in Dieppe at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada – NB, or Diabetes Canada – NB Division.
