J. Laurie Cormier, 87, of Villa du Repos and formerly of Dieppe, NB, passed away on Thursday, October 29th 2009 at his residence, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer.
Born in Moncton, NB, he was the son of the late André and the late Belsémé (née: Surette) Cormier.
Prior to retirement in 1982, Mr. Cormier had worked in the engineering department for the C.N. He was a veteran of WW II, served with the RCAF “427 Squadron” and became a P.O.W. in December 1943. A monument was erected in the “ J. Laurie Cormier P.O.W. Park” in Lakeburn, NB to honor his service to the country. He was a parishioner of Saint-Anselme Roman Catholic Church, Dieppe, NB.
Laurie will be dearly missed by his four children; James (Tara) of Edmonton, AB, Peter (Lorraine) of Dieppe, Anne (Luc Melanson) of Saint-Anselme and John (Janet) of Moncton; six grandchildren: Natalie, Patrick, Richard, Caroline, Delia and Eric; a special friend of many years, Leonie Roy as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Eileen (née: Gaudet) in 1988; six brothers: Marcelin, Léo, Norman, Andrew, Joe and Valerie and also by one sister, Dorilla.
Visitation will be held from the Chartersville Funeral Home, 363 Amirault Street, Dieppe, NB, (857-1901), on Sunday from 2 to 4 pm and from 7 to 9 pm and also on Monday from 10 am until time of departure.
Funeral mass will be celebrated from Saint-Anselme Roman Catholic Church, Dieppe, NB on Monday, November 2nd 2009 at 11 am.
Interment in the Saint-Anselme Parish Cemetery, Dieppe, NB.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society or a memorial of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.

À sa résidence, le jeudi 29 octobre, 2009 à l’âge de 87 ans, après une courageuse lutte contre l’Alzheimer, est décédé J. Laurie Cormier, domicilié à la Villa du Repos, Moncton, N.-B, autrefois de Dieppe, N.-B.
Né à Moncton, N.-B., il était fils de feu André et de feu Belsémé (née: Surette) Cormier.
Avant sa retraite en 1982, M. Cormier travaillait pour le service d’ingénierie au C.N. Il était paroissien de l’église Saint-Anselme. Il est vétéran de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, servi avec l’Aviation Royale du Canada “Escadron 427″ et était devenu prisonnier de guerre en décembre 1943. Un monument a été dédié dans le parc “J. Laurie Cormier-Prisonnier de Guerre à Lakeburn, N.-B. pour lui rendre hommage.
Il laisse dans le deuil ses enfants: James (Tara) de Edmonton, AB, Peter (Lorraine) de Dieppe, Anne (Luc Melanson) de Saint-Anselme et John (Janet) de Moncton;
6 petits-enfants: Natalie, Patrick, Richard, Caroline, Delia et Eric; son amie spéciale de plusieurs années, Léonie Roy ainsi que plusieurs neveux et nièces.
Outre ses parents, son épouse, Eileen (née: Gaudet) en 1988; six frères: Marcelin, Léo, Norman, Andrew, Joe et Valerie ainsi qu’une soeur, Dorilla l’ont précédé dans la tombe.
Les visites auront lieu à la Maison funéraire Chartersville, 363 rue Amirault, Dieppe, N.-B., (857-1901) le dimanche de 14h à 16h et de 19h à 21h et le lundi de 10h jusqu’au départ pour les funérailles.
Les funérailles auront lieu en l’église Saint-Anselme, le lundi 2 novembre, 2009 à 11h.
