Cocagne, NB – Fidèle Poirier, 83, passed away peacefully at Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre, on Sunday, March 27, 2016, after a brief illness.

Born in Bouctouche, NB, he was the son of the late Frederick (Perry) and Yvonne (Melanson) Poirier.

He spent all his working life at the service of others. Twelve years of serving banking clients, five years in the recreation activities with people of all ages, twenty-six years with the Co-op movement , eighteen of them at the service of the Shediac Co-op members and after retiring in 1992, he enjoyed being at the service of seniors groups in Shediac and Cocagne. He was a founding member of the Shediac Athletic Club, a founding member of the Greater Moncton Sewerage Commission, a member of the Shediac Lobster Festival revival committee in 1962 and sat on the Town of Shediac Council for one term. He was also member of various fund raising committees for different organisations, such as the Shediac Minor Hockey, the Shediac Figure Skating Club, the 650 George Vanier Air Cadets Squadron and others in need of financial assistance. He was a member of the Grande-Digue Golden Age Club. He enjoyed nature, along with his wife, Lina. They spent a great amount of their retirement time in Cocagne on their beautiful landscaped lot. He cared for the birds, he enjoyed their beautiful flower garden of Gladiolus. He enjoyed cultivating a great variety of small fruits and vegetables in their large garden.

Fidèle will be sadly missed by his wife, Lina of 57 years of marriage; his three adorable children, Roland (Tina) of Irishtown, Nicole Gallant (Mike) of Aldouane and Jacques (Karen) of Piedmont, QC; his two brothers, Jean-Paul (Aurella) of Clinton, Mass and Albert Noël (Bev) of Hamilton, ON; his sixteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren; also by several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his stepfather, Pierre Fortier; three brothers, Adélard (late Mina) of Oakville, ON, Philidore (late Georgia) of Grand-Barachois and Émile "Joe" (Cathy) of Florida, USA; two sisters, Alexina Bastarache (late Yvon) and Bernice Allain (late François) both from Bouctouche.

Visitations will be at Passage in Shediac Bridge on Thursday, March 31, 2016 from 6 to 9 pm. There will be no visitations on Friday. Funeral service will be held at La Visitation RC Church in Grande-Digue on Friday, April 1, 2016 at 2 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Friends of the Moncton Hospital Foundation, the CHU Dumont Foundation or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
