1929 – 2019
Moncton, NB – It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Joyce Smith on February 21, 2019 at the Moncton City Hospital.
Joyce is survived by her sister, Irene; her brother-in-law, Yvan (Scotty) Alain; also by several nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
Joyce was predeceased by her parents, Percy and Sybil; her two brothers, James (Jimmy) and John; her four sisters, Frances, June, Marina and Joan.
Joyce’s father Percy was in the navy. He came to Canada from the United States and her mother Sybil was from Campbellton. They settled in Moncton where they raised their family. Joyce was born on May 20, 1929 in Moncton New Brunswick.
At a young age Joyce moved from Moncton to Ottawa where she worked at a nursing home and devoted her time to the needs of others. Following retirement Joyce returned to Moncton to be closer to her siblings and their families. She enjoyed family gatherings and special events. Joyce looked forward to playing cards and bingo with her friends weekly. She loved watching all sports but she especially enjoyed watching the blue jays, always hoping for a win.
We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Dr. Kelly and to all the nurses and staff on the 5400 unit.
Visitation will be held at Passage (625, Mountain road, Corner West Lane, Moncton) on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 from 9 am until time of funeral service at Passage Funeral Chapel at 11 am.
Donations in Joyce’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the Diabetes Association.
