En Souvenir De
Linda Louise Bateman
décembre 22, 2011

Linda Louise Bateman, 57, of Shediac Cape, after a courageous battle with diabetes and heart disease, passed away at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Thursday, December 22, 2011. Born in Moncton, NB, she was the daughter of Austin and Marie (Meunier) Bastian. Linda was happiest when she was doing things for others, whether cooking for her family, or volunteering her time to numerous community projects and organizations. She loved her family, singing, the movies, travelling and the colour green.
Linda is survived by her husband of 39 years, Lee Bateman, their children, Amanda Leaman (James) of Riverview, Harold Bateman (Michelle) of Toronto, ON, Benjamin Bateman (Joelle) of Shediac Cape, and Clinton Bateman (Sophie) of Cocagne, and much loved grandchildren Analee (Benjamin) Bateman, and Peyton (Clinton) Bateman. She is also survived by her parents; her sister Christine and her brothers Lee, Michael (Sandy) and Mark; and several nieces and nephews.
Linda’s passion was education, and after attending the New Brunswick Teachers’ College in Fredericton, she began her teaching career.  After a break to raise her children, she returned to school earning a Bachelor of Liberal Arts (majoring in Mathematics) in 1994, followed by a Bachelor of Education in 1995, both from Mount Allison University.  Linda went on to teach at Riverview High, Harrison Trimble High, and Moncton High Schools.
Throughout her life, Linda was a tireless volunteer. Starting when her first child entered school, she became involved with the Home and School. She served as President of the Shediac Cape / Pointe-du-Chene Home and School Association for many years, and went on to serve in various capacities including President of the Moncton Home and School District Council; President, Past-President and Treasurer of the NB Federation of Home and School Associations; a member of the Canadian Home and School Federation; and was a lifetime member of the Shediac Cape Home and School Association. She was instrumental in establishing and managing a Home and School run cafeteria at Shediac Cape School. Linda served as a Trustee on the District 15 School Board for 8 years. She successfully campaigned for a guardrail at Bateman’s Mill, a playground at Pointe-du-Chene School, the expansion of Shediac Cape School, the construction of Lou MacNarin School in Dieppe, and many other important educational issues. Linda volunteered in a number of positions within the Moncton basketball community: she volunteered with the Moncton Kiwanis Minor Basketball Association; she served as Manager for the Moncton Provincial Boys team for several years; she was an assistant-coach for the Moncton High School Junior Girls Basketball Team. Linda was an active member of St.-Martin’s-in-the-Wood Anglican Church. Most recently, she chaired the committee that oversaw the renovation of the 180+ year old church. She spent countless hours over three decades working as part of the Annual Goose and Turkey Supper Committee. In the past she volunteered on the Vestry, and several other initiatives.
Visitations will be held at the St-Martin’s-in-the-Wood Anglican Church in Shediac Cape on Monday, December 26 from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral Service will be at the St-Martin’s-in-the-Wood Anglican Church on Tuesday, December 27 at 2 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association, Heart and Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick, or blood donations to Canadian Blood Services would be appreciated. The family would like to thank everyone who kept Linda in their thoughts and prayers.  The family also appreciates the care of the medical staff, especially Dr. Ansar Hassan, and the nurses of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit who treated her at Saint John Regional Hospital.
