En Souvenir De
Nancy Marie Strang (nee Newberry)
mars 1, 2015

Nancy’s story began in Bryson, Quebec where she was born to parents Hilda and Thaddeus Newberry. The fifth of seven children, she was a loving sister to Patsy, Barbara, Jean, Edythe, John (deceased) and Kathy.

Upon graduating from Teacher’s College in 1967, Nancy taught in Quebec before moving to Melrose, NB in 1969 where she taught at Port Elgin Elementary. In 1970, she was talked into marrying Daniel Frederick Strang of Malden, NB. They loved each other for more than 44 years, and brought four really cool people into the world: Laura Marie, John Daniel, Karen Louise, and Tanya Beth.

Nancy was an exceptional mother, an incredible cook and an excellent teacher. She was an avid reader and crocheted the most beautiful afghans and baby clothes. Nancy loved flowers and spent a lot of time outdoors in her gardens, walking, and picking blueberries wherever she could find them. More than anything, Nancy loved babies, and nothing made her happier than having one in her arms. She was devoted to her church and volunteered faithfully. She taught religion classes for more than 20 years, helped organize St. Bartholomew’s annual turkey suppers, and acted as Lector and Eucharistic Minister.

Nancy cooked for Legion events, helped with school fundraisers, taught GED and Laubach, and tutored special needs children, often at no charge to the families. She loved to teach, and wanted the best for her students.

At age 66, Nancy passed away from Alzheimer related complications at the Westford Nursing home, in the presence of her loving family.

Nancy will be missed dearly by her husband, Danny; her daughter, Laura and her husband John Somerville and their daughters, Savanna and Kailey; her son, John Strang and his daughter, Lindsay; her daughter, Karen Allen and her children, Keagan and Keira; her daughter, Tanya Kelly and her husband Jody and their children Brenna and Abby.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 5, 2015 at Saint Bartholomew’s Roman Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Allison Carroll officiating. The church will be open at 10:00 a.m. for visitation.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Westford Nursing Home or the Alzheimer’s Society of NB.
