Marie Claudette Patricia (Patricia) Savoie, née Gallant, of Dieppe, formerly of Bathurst, NB, passed away on Sunday December 9, 2018, surrounded by her loved ones. Born on August 14th, 1942, in Moncton, Patricia was the youngest of 17 children born to Philorome and Henriette (Daigle) Gallant. Patricia trained to be a nurse at Hotel Dieu de L’Assomption, class of 1964, and worked in hospitals in both Ottawa and Montréal after graduation.
Patricia originally met Urbain Savoie, of Grande-Anse, NB, while he was a student at Université de Moncton and she was a nursing student and novice nun. They met again, years later, in Montreal, and were married there on June 27, 1970. After the birth of their first son, Patricia and Urbain settled in Bathurst, NB. While Urbain started his architecture business, Patricia devoted herself to raising their sons, Leo and Andre. Ever curious, Patricia was a talented student of photography, having taken numerous photography classes, including one with the renowned photographer Ansel Adams. Fiercely independent, Patricia was the kind of woman who, in her mid-60’s, bought herself a chainsaw in order to take on an overgrown area of their property in Grande-Anse—alone. Patricia will be remembered by her loved ones for her strength, determination, and ability to fearlessly take on the world.
Patricia is survived by her husband Urbain; her son Leo and his wife Mireille Savoie, of Sackville, NB; and son Andre and his wife Hillary Savoie, of Troy, NY; her grandchildren, Nicolas, Katherine, and Esme; her brothers Leonard Gallant and Raymond-Guy Gallant. She is preceded in death by her parents Philorome and Henriette (Daigle) Gallant, and siblings: Cecilia, Antoinette, Marie Louise, Jeanne, Edmond, Ernest, Therese, Bernadette, Roger, Paul Andre, Marie Yvette, Marguerita, Marie Celine, and Rose Marie.
Visitation will be held from the Chartersville Funeral Home, 363 Amirault Street, Dieppe, (857-1901) on Friday, December 14th 2018 from 2 pm until time of service.
A Celebration of the Word will be held from the Chartersville Funeral Home Chapel, 3 pm, followed by a reception.
Donations to the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated by the family.
Marie Claudette Patricia (Patricia) Savoie, née Gallant, de Dieppe, anciennement de Bathurst, N.-B., est décédée le dimanche 9 décembre 2018, entourée de ses proches. Née le 14 août 1942 à Moncton, Patricia était la plus jeune des 17 enfants de Philorome et Henriette (Daigle) Gallant. Patricia a suivi une formation d’infirmière à l’Hôtel-Dieu de L’Assomption, diplômée en 1964, et a ensuite travaillé dans des hôpitaux à Ottawa et à Montréal.
Patricia a d’abord rencontré Urbain Savoie, de Grande-Anse, au Nouveau-Brunswick, alors qu’il était étudiant à l’Université de Moncton, et elle, étudiante en soins infirmiers et au noviciat. Des années plus tard, ils se rencontrent à Montréal et se marient le 27 juin 1970. Après la naissance de leur premier fils, Patricia et Urbain s’établissent à Bathurst, au Nouveau-Brunswick. Alors que Urbain a commencé son entreprise d’architecture, Patricia s’est consacrée à élever leurs fils, Léo et André. Toujours curieuse, Patricia était une talentueuse étudiante en photographie après avoir suivi de nombreux cours, dont un avec le célèbre photographe Ansel Adams. Extrêmement indépendante, Patricia était le genre de femme qui, au milieu de la soixantaine, s’était acheté une scie à chaîne pour pouvoir défricher leur propriété à Grande-Anse, seule. Ses proches se souviendront de Patricia pour sa force, sa détermination et sa capacité à affronter le monde sans crainte.
Patricia laisse dans le deuil son mari Urbain; son fils Léo et son épouse Mireille; et fils André et son épouse Hillary Savoie, de Troy, NY; ses petits-enfants, Nicolas, Katherine et Esmé; ses frères Léonard Gallant et Raymond-Guy Gallant. Elle est précédée dans la mort de ses parents Philorome et Henriette (Daigle) Gallant et de frères et sœurs: Cecilia, Antoinette, Marie Louise, Jeanne, Edmond, Ernest, Thérèse, Bernadette, Roger, Paul André, Marie Yvette, Marguerita, Marie Céline et Rose Marie.
Les visites auront lieu à la Maison funéraire Chartersville, 363 rue Amirault, Dieppe (857-1901) le vendredi 14 décembre de 14h jusqu’à l’heure des funérailles.
Une Célébration de la Parole aura lieu en la chapelle de la Maison funéraire Chartersville, à 15h, suivi d’une réception.
Un don à la Société Alzheimer serait apprécié par la famille.
