Phélias Gauvin, 91, formerly of Amirault St., Dieppe, passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at the Dr. Georges-L. Dumont Hospital, Moncton, NB.
Born in Chartersville, NB, he was the son of the late David Joseph and the late Marie Bella (née: LeBlanc) Gauvin.
Mr Gauvin was the owner of Phil’s Garage and Service Station, a member of the U.C.T., Club d’Age d’Or and a parishioner of Saint-Anselme Roman Catholic Church. He was a veteran of WWII having served with the army (RCEME).
He is survived by his wife, Marguerite (née: Vautour); four daughters: Carmella Powers and Claudette (Francis) Drisdelle both of Moncton, Phyllis (Francis) Melanson and Gisèle (Michel) Michaud both of Dieppe; three sons: Valmond (Bernadette) of Moncton, Claude (Pauline) of Dieppe and Normand of Shediac; one sister, Lina Lirette of Mississauga, ON; 12 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by four sisters: Elodie, Hermance, Leonie and Evelyne and also by three brothers: Emile, Charles and Joseph.
Visitation will be held from the Chartersville Funeral Home, 363 Amirault Street, Dieppe, NB, 857-1901, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and from 7 to 9 pm and also on Monday from 10 am until time of departure.
The veterans will hold a prayer service on Sunday at 3:30 pm.
Funeral mass will be celebrated at Saint-Anselme Roman Catholic Church, on Monday, May 11, 2009 at 11 am.
Interment in the Chartersville Columbarium, Dieppe, NB.
Donations to the NB Heart and Stroke Foundation, Parkinson Society or the C.N.I.B. would be appreciated by the family.
À l’Hôpital Dr Georges-L. Dumont de Moncton, le mercredi 6 mai 2009 à l’âge de 91 ans, est décédé Phélias Gauvin, autrefois de la rue Amirault, Dieppe, N.-B.
Né à Chartersville, N.-B., il était fils de feu David Joseph et de feu Marie Bella (née: LeBlanc) Gauvin.
M. Gauvin était le propriétaire de “Phil’s Garage and Service Station”, il était membre du U.C.T, Club d’Age d’Or et paroissien de l’église Saint-Anselme. Il est vétéran de la deuxième guerre mondiale, ayant servit dans l’armée (RCEME).
Il laisse dans le deuil son épouse, Marguerite (née: Vautour); quatres filles: Carmella Powers et Claudette (Francis) Drisdelle tous deux de Moncton, Phyllis (Francis) Melanson et Gisèle (Michel) Michaud tous deux de Dieppe; trois fils: Valmond (Bernadette) de Moncton, Claude (Pauline) de Dieppe et Normand de Shediac; une soeur, Lina Lirette de Mississauga, ON;
12 petits-enfants; 10 arrière petits-enfants ainsi que plusieurs neveux et nièces.
Quatres soeurs: Elodie, Hermance, Leonie et Evelyne ainsi que trois frères: Emile, Charles et Joseph l’ont précédé dans la tombe.
Les visites auront lieu à la Maison funéraire Chartersville, 363 rue Amirault, Dieppe, N.-B., (857-1901) le dimanche de 14h à 16h et de 19h à 21h et le lundi de 10h jusqu’au départ pour les funérailles.
Un service d’ancien combattant aura lieu au salon dimanche à 15h30.
Les funérailles auront lieu en l’église Saint-Anselme, le lundi 11 mai, 2009 à 11h.
