It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Roger “Hibou” LeBlanc, 63, of Fox Creek and formerly of Riverview, NB and Dartmouth, NS on Friday, November 24th, 2006 at after a courageous battle with cancer with family close by his side.
Born in St.-Anselme, he was the son of Osithe (née: Gaudet) LeBlanc and the late Harris LeBlanc.
Prior to driving bus #52 for School District 1, he had been employed in sales with Pepsi Cola for 34 years.
His lifetime passion for hockey started at an early age. Especially during the time of the Acadian Hockey League when he played as goalie for the St.-Anselme Eagles. He volunteered his services for over 30 years to various organizations such as the Cole Harbour Minor Hockey, Cole Harbour Ringuette, SEDMA Minor Hockey and Cole Harbour Minor Baseball in Dartmouth, NS, the Riverview Minor Hockey, Riverview High School Hockey, Riverview Minor Baseball and the Dieppe Minor Hockey.
He was also a great fan of the local hockey clubs.
His vision in life was that if he could help one child off the streets and encourage him to study hard at school, he had achieved his goal.
He was an active member, having served on the board of the St.-Anselme Club d’Age d’Or, active volunteer for La Francophonie, Jeux des Ainés and the Lions Club Breakfasts, Active participant for the Moncton-Dieppe Lions Club, in which he was the first recipient of the “Volunteer of the Year” award given to a non-member and also an award of merit for being an exceptional volunteer by the City of Dieppe.
Roger loved his Tuesday night card games, camping, gardening, bird watching. he was a simple man that loved nature and people.
Loving husband to Brenda (née: Gautreau), caring father to daughter, Lise LeBlanc of Brooklyn, NS and son René of South Hampton, Bermuda and his precious grandson Matthew, whom he adored and shared the love of hockey. He is also survived by one brother Clarence (Imelda) of Chartersville; two sisters: Azèle (Léonce) Arseneault of Moncton and Bernice (Donald) Cormier of Fox Creek as well as by several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from the Chartersville Funeral Home, 363 Amirault Street, Dieppe, 857-1901, on Monday November 27th, 2006 from 7 to 9 pm, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm and also on Wednesday from 10 until time of departure. Funeral mass will be celebrated at Saint-Anselme Roman Catholic Church, on Wednesday, November 29th, 2006 at 11 am.
Interment in Notre-Dame du Calvaire Cemetery, Dieppe, NB.
Donations to the Dr. Georges-L. Dumont Hospital “Tree of Hope”or the Friends of the Moncton Hospital “Palliative care unit” would be appreciated by the family.
