Thomas Alfred Pittaway, 76, of Moncton, New Brunswick, passed away at the Moncton Hospital on September 16, 2016, following a brief illness.
Born in Birmingham, England, Tom was the son of the late Thomas Alfred Pittaway and the late Edna Esther (Phillips) Pittaway.
Tom was a life-long teacher, in his role as an instructor at the Moncton Campus of the New Brunswick Community College, as a volunteer outdoor club and photography club leader, and informally: he always had advice to offer and suggestions for how you might best complete whatever you were doing. For many years, he was an avid photographer and gardener. He also always enjoyed a good meal! Later in life, he took pleasure in sketching and painting, especially in water colours. His pet cats Moggie and Muffin were companions and a great comfort to him in his later years.
Tom will be mourned by his wife, Marie (Gillis) Pittaway; his children, Kim Pittaway of Dartmouth, N.S., Tom Pittaway (Ilda Lindsey) of Mansfield, Ont., and Tina Pittaway of Ottawa, Ont.; his brothers, John Pittaway (Margaret) of Stouffville, Ont. and Bill Pittaway (Anne) of Bussac-sur-Charente, France; his nephew, Adam Pittaway (Brenna) of Atlanta, Georgia and niece, Cheri Pittaway of Stouffville, Ont.; as well as his uncle and aunt Bernard and Rose Pittaway of Birmingham, England and his cousin, Linda Allebon (Robert) of Bristol, England and many other cousins in England; and nieces and nephews and extended family on Marie’s side of the family.
The family extends its thanks to the health care team in the acute care and geriatrics floor of the Moncton Hospital.
A private family ceremony of remembrance was held on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at Passage Funeral Chapel (625 Mountain Rd, Moncton).
Donations to the Greater Moncton SPCA.
