1932 ~ 2018
Uby was born in 1932 of Acadian parents Camille and Lena (Drisdelle). Left to mourn are his wife Virginia “Mike” Melanson; his three children, Thane, Daniel (Natalie) and Alana (Roger) and his grandchildren, Rhyanna, Rhys and Pierce.
Uby had a long history in sales and business in Atlantic Canada. At age 18 he started travelling as a regional manager selling carbon paper. After making a good ‘impression’ with them, he switched to selling banking & security equipment. He then continued his sales career on for decades forming several family businesses. These companies represented leading Canadian office furniture manufacturers doing business both domestically and internationally.
As well to being a salesman, he had an interest in music and art. Uby loved jazz music and volunteered with the Moncton Jazz Festival. Furthermore, he owned and managed for many years ‘The Lighthouse Gallery’ on Moncton’s Main Street.
Uby was also involved in the community as an active and dedicated member to The Richelieu, The Elks, Moncton City Club, and more recently The Boishebert in Shediac. Uby was also a Rotarian and a member of the International Committee of the YMCA. In addition, he was a philanthropist with the Université de Moncton.
In his leisure time, Uby liked to spend time at the beach – both at Parlee and at Indian Shores, Florida. He also loved a round of golf and socializing with friends and family.
All are welcome to attend a viewing at Passage in Shediac Bridge on Thursday January 25 from 2 to 4 p.m. to remember Uby. A private family celebration of Uby’s life will be held in Shediac later this summer. In memory of Uby, a contribution to Parkinson Canada would be welcome by the family.
