Cocagne – Willie DesRoches, 87, passed away peacefully at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre, surrounded by his loving family, on Monday, August 15, 2011, after a lengthy illness.
Born in Tignish, PEI on January 3, 1924, he was the son of the late Dominic and Madelaine (Poirier) DesRoches.
Willie was a Veteran, a retired cook, a long time Blue Jays fan and a cribbage player.
Willie will be sadly missed by his wife of 64 years, Irma (Caissie), his two sons, Maurille (Francine Surette) of Cocagne, Vincent (Murielle Melanson) of St-Antoine; his two daughters, Diane (John Goguen) of Ottawa, ON, Linda (Eddy Williams) of Cocagne; his three sisters, Freda Gaudet (late Jimmy) of Tignish, PEI, Sylvia Melanson (late Léandre) of Cocagne, Marie Vincent (Keir) of Alma, PEI; his nine grandchildren; his seven great grandchildren; and his daughter-in-law, Anne-Marie DesRoches of Ste-Anne-de-Kent.
He was predeceased by one son, Bernard, seven brothers, Everett, John James, Alex, Gerald, George (twin brother), Cedric, Joseph; one infant brother, Edgar; one sister, Edna; and one great grand daughter, Stephanie.
Visitations will be held at Passage in Shediac Bridge on Wednesday, August 17 from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm, and Thursday, August 18 from 9:30 to 10:30 am. Funeral service will be at St-Pierre de Cocagne RC Church on Thursday, August 18 at 11 am. The burial will take place in the parish cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont Foundation (Oncology Dept.), to Canadian Cancer Society or to the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
